I would like to pick Oppo's collective brain.
My wife's car has a new interesting glitch that I'd like to share. It's a 2004 PT Cruiser blah blah blah. I know you don't care but this is worth reading.
She recently had an interesting issue where the fog lights come on whenever they want and we can no longer summon them to turn on or off. They literally do as they wish. If the car is off and no lights are on they will do what they want.
Last night we made sure all the lights were off and then later went to leave and they were back on again. Srsly possessed
We did notice however that they turn off if the turn signals are turned on but turn right back on after they turn off.
I'm sure it has to do with the turn signal lever but it's really odd to see fog lights on when nothing else is. I thought they were wired so that the fog lights couldn't turn on without at least having the parking lights on. Anyway weird.
Thoughts???

I think replacing the blinker arm is a good place to start assuming that's where the foglight/headlight control is.
Becuase the headlights can stay on without the car being on I'm guessing there's a short in there that is turning on the foglights which I'm guessing just like the headlights can be on without the car being on.
I realize after re-reading that I used the phrase "I'm guessing" a lot, but that's how you diagnose things anyhow.
Good luck and now you know we have to know what the solution was whenever you find out.

Are they stock, aftermarket or oem upgrade?

Do the fog lights turn off like they should when the high beams are on?

I'll be sure to inform you all when a solution is reached!
And blinker arm is first major suspect because I also just found out that the brights won't click in and stay on. They will pull on but you have to hold it now.

They do but I just found out that the high-beams won't click in to stay on. It sounds like the turn signal lever is just shot.

Stock and never been messed with.

I guess you should try replacing that first, then.

This is a VERY COMMON ISSUE with the Multifunction switch. One of my friends had a 05 PT cruiser GT, and even with the car off if he touched the MFS in the right way, the fog lights would kick on.
Replace the MFS ASAP, its a badly designed part.

This should have been a recall...so many destroyed batteries and potential fire hazards. Now I'm concerned for her driving it and getting stranded somewhere.

I have heard of MFS's going up in smoke over this, your right, it should have been a recall. The problem is it sends to much amperage through the wiring in the MFS and fries it, I've heard of people adding relays and such to drop how much power goes though it.
